Grant Awarded to Northampton Community College to Train and Place 40 Veterans
Easton, PA – Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that the Department of Transportation has awarded Northampton County Area Community College a $134,000 Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training Grant.
The funds will be administered by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
The grant will enable the college to recruit, train and place 40 veterans at $3,360 cost per student. The program curriculum includes 80 hours of classroom training and 160 hours of off-road and behind-the-wheel instruction. Costs consist entirely of tuition.
“When veterans have served our country with honor and decide to transition to civilian careers, they deserve access to training programs that will lead to jobs,” Rep. Cartwright said.
The grant Program helps technical and community colleges help train veterans for jobs as commercial bus and truck drivers.
