Rep. Cartwright Announces $4.6 Million Grant to Invest in Children and Communities in Luzerne County
Luzerne County, PA – Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) announced a $4,687,441 federal grant awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to Luzerne County Head Start to provide high-quality, comprehensive, early childhood education for children in Luzerne and Wyoming Counties.
“Early education programs set the foundation for a child’s future academic and economic success,” said Rep. Cartwright. “With these new resources, Head Start can provide even more young children with the tools and skills they need to unlock their full potential. This is a critical investment in today’s students and Northeastern Pennsylvania’s future.”
Head Start was created in 1965 to address the educational and developmental needs of low-income, preschool children. Head Start’s comprehensive service system provides social, nutritional and educational services and has given thousands upon thousands of children the skills they need to be and do their best in school and throughout their lives.
