In honor of the 35th anniversary of Larry Holmes capturing the WBC heavyweight title, U.S. Reps. Matt Cartwright and Charlie Dent have introduced a resolution recognizing the Easton great, according to a news release.
"Larry Holmes is not only a champion of boxing, but has also been a champion in his community," said Cartwright, D-Northampton, in the release.
On June 9, 1978, Holmes defeated Ken Norton to capture the WBC title in Las Vegas. He finished his career 69-6 with 44 wins by knockout.
"Larry Holmes has been a true friend to his hometown not only with his many investments but also his willingness to help the youth," Easton Mayor Sal Panto Jr. said in the release.
