Cartwright Announces $70,000 EDA Grant to the Economic Development Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania

Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) announced that the Economic Development Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania received a $70,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, distributed via the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) for economic development district planning.

This EDA investment supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Economic Development Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania, which includes Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill and Wayne counties. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.

“Programs like this are key to attracting new capital investment and creating more well-paying jobs in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the Appropriations Committee. “This funding will help ensure our region is well-positioned for economic success now and in the future. I thank the NEPA Alliance for their continued commitment to growing our economy.”

“The NEPA Alliance thanks Congressman Cartwright for his leadership in economic development in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Congressman’s support is crucial for EDA to have funds for NEPA to continue our economic development planning for our seven-county region,” said Jeffrey K. Box, President & CEO of the NEPA Alliance.

As the only federal government agency focused exclusively on economic development, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) plays a critical role in facilitating regional economic development efforts in communities across the nation. The EDA investment policy is designed to establish a foundation for sustainable job growth and the building of durable regional economies throughout the United States. This foundation builds upon two key economic drivers: innovation and regional collaboration. The EDA encourages its partners around the country to develop initiatives that advance new ideas and creative approaches to address rapidly evolving economic conditions.
