Congressman Cartwright Announces 2017 Service Academy Nominations for Carbon County

Today, Congressman Matt Cartwright proudly announced the nomination of 3 students from Carbon County for appointments to the United States Service Academies. Each student nominated by Congressman Cartwright will go through the academies' competitive application process. If offered an appointment, the students will join their respective academy's class of 2021. “It is my distinguished honor to nominate these exceptional young men and women as candidates for appointment to our esteemed United States Service Academies,” Cartwright said. “Each student nominated is among the best and brightest of northeastern Pennsylvania, and they represent the next generation of great American leaders.” Cartwright continued, “I want to thank these outstanding young adults for their willingness to commit to service to their country. They give me hope that our best days are surely ahead.” John Iles, Palmerton, PA John is a senior at Palmerton Area High School in Palmerton, PA. John is the son of Peter and Deanna Iles. John is a member of the National Honor Society where he serves as vice president. He has served as secretary for the Class of 2017, and as vice-president of the Gridiron Club. He has earned a varsity letter in football, wrestling, and track & field. John has been nominated to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. Ryan McArdle, Jim Thorpe, PA Ryan is a senior at Jim Thorpe Area High School in Jim Thorpe, PA. Ryan is the son of Kevin and Laura McArdle. Ryan is a member of the Spanish Club, the National Honor Society, and the National Society of High School Scholars. He is also a member of the track & field team and the soccer team. He has earned the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. Ryan is also a volunteer firefighter and has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Ryan has been nominated to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD. Delana Nalesnik, Jim Thorpe, PA Delana Nalesnik is a senior at Jim Thorpe Area Senior High School in Jim Thorpe, PA. Delana is the daughter of Bruce and Koreen Nalesnik. At school, Delana is a member of the cross country team, the indoor track & field team, and the outdoor track & field team. She is a member of the Spanish Club, the Panther Valley Art Club, the Math Team, and the National Honor Society. Delana has been nominated to the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, CO. |
