Congressman Cartwright Announces 2017 Service Academy Nominations for Monroe County

Today, Congressman Matt Cartwright proudly announced the nomination of 3 students from Monroe County for appointments to the United States Service Academies.  Each student nominated by Congressman Cartwright will go through the academies' competitive application process.  If offered an appointment, the students will join their respective academy's class of 2021.

“It is my distinguished honor to nominate these exceptional young men as candidates for appointment to our esteemed United States Service Academies,” Cartwright said.  “Each student nominated is among the best and brightest of northeastern Pennsylvania, and they represent the next generation of great American leaders.”

Cartwright continued, “I want to thank these outstanding young adults for their willingness to commit to service to their country.  They give me hope that our best days are surely ahead.”
 
Cartwright’s class of 2021 U.S. Service Academy nominees from Monroe County include:

 Drew Beiler, Saylorsburg, PA

Drew Beiler is a senior at The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School in Midland, PA. Drew is the son of James and Tammy Beiler. Drew is a member of the National and German Honor Societies, a member of the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, a volunteer at the local Habitat for Humanity House, and an active member of his church’s youth group. Drew has been nominated to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. 

Ajalon Farrow-Maynie, East Stroudsburg, PA   

Ajalon is a senior at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, TN. He is the son of Dr. Virginia Farrow–Williams and Damani Maynie. Ajalon is a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Pocono Medical Center, as well as a member of the National Honor Society. He has enjoyed being a varsity athlete on both the basketball and track teams, and a member of the TC Flight Track Club. Ajalon has been nominated to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. 

 Alexander Salvero, Blakeslee, PA

Alexander is a senior at Pleasant Valley High School in Brodheadsville, PA. Alexander is the son of Joanne Russo and Joseph Salvero. Alexander is on the varsity football team, a member of the Pheasants Forever Youth Hunt Guide, and a member of the National Honor Society. He also commits himself to Red Cross Community Service, the FBLA, and the Football Advisory Council. Alexander has been nominated to the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, CO, as well as the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD.
