Cartwright Announces $ 38,096 DHS Grant for Taylor Fire & Rescue

Taylor, PA– Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) awarded Taylor Fire & Rescue with an $38,096 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG). The funds will be distributed via the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Taylor Fire & Rescue will use these funds to purchase an Air Compressor/Cascade/Fill Station for filling self-contained breathing apparatus units. This will enable them to refill their units following use and save time. SCBA units are worn by rescue workers, firefighters, and others to provide breathable air.

“The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program continues to be a critical resource for our community fire companies.  The men and women of our fire and rescue units selflessly put their lives in harm’s way,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “This is why I am a strong supporter of programs like the AFG, which help ensure our first responders have the resources they need to protect themselves and the community.”

The purpose of the AFG is to award competitive grants directly to fire departments to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel.  Since 2001, the AFG program has provided approximately $7.1 billion in grants to first-responder organizations to obtain much-needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.
