Cartwright Statement on Continuing Resolution

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright issued the following statement regarding the continuing resolution considered on the House floor on January 18, 2018:

"Congress needs to provide stable and sufficient funding for our nation's military and for Pennsylvania's Community Health Centers. I oppose continuing these month-by-month inadequate budgets that make our work on the Appropriations Committee meaningless.

I have always been a strong supporter of children's health insurance. But it's no good if you close down the health centers where they use that insurance. Several of these centers are in our district.

Our local economy also includes a lot of defense jobs -- jobs that I worry are jeopardized if the military can't plan ahead and award contracts. That's what happens with these irresponsible short-term funding resolutions.

We need to work in a bipartisan way to provide a budget that will benefit working families, seniors, people brought to our shores as innocent children and veterans. I urge my colleagues to stop kicking this important responsibility down the road and hurting the very people we should be serving. Instead of shutting down the government, the Republican majority should work with Democrats and come up with a sensible long-term plan."
