Congressman sets meeting on reopening Route 611 as rock-slide closure lingers

Lehigh Valley Live

The Pocono Mountains’ congressman is looking for answers on reopening Route 611 at a meeting scheduled this week.

U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, a Democrat representing Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District in northeastern Pennsylvania, invited officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and National Park Service to meet with him Wednesday, Jan. 17, to discuss the ongoing closure.

“The year anniversary of the closure of Route 611 at the Northampton-Monroe County border passed in early December, and yet there is still no indication of when this vital artery will be reopened. Businesses are suffering, commuters are frustrated, and the surrounding community is looking for answers when it comes to the project’s prolonged delay,” Cartwright wrote in a letter requesting the meeting with PennDOT District Executive Christopher J. Kufro and Doyle W. Sapp, superintendent of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
