Ever since we passed the American Rescue Plan this spring, our economy has been on the rebound -- and things really picked up in July.

According to the July jobs report released today, we've created nearly 1 million jobs last month as people get back to work. Restaurants and entertainment businesses -- the hardest hit by COVID-19 -- saw some of the strongest bouncebacks. Workers' earnings rose again too.

These positive signs point to one thing: Our economic recovery plan is working.

I want to make sure we keep this good progress going. Two things can make that possible. One, we can all encourage our friends and neighbors who have yet to get their COVID-19 vaccinations to do so. Two, I'll keep working in Congress to create more jobs, cut taxes for working families and lower costs.

This year, tens of thousands of working families across NEPA are getting a well-deserved tax cut, thanks to the American Rescue Plan that Democrats in Congress and I helped enact this spring. Last month, families received their first advance monthly payments stemming from this tax cut, and those will continue each month for the rest of this year.

When we invest in education, we are investing in the future of our region and country. That's why I'm proud to share that $1.8 million will go to Scranton-Lackawanna Head Start to support early education programs in NEPA.
