Cartwright Announces Grant For $180,000 To Support Health Care Services In Luzerne County

Luzerne County, PA – On Thursday, Congressman Matt Cartwright (PA-o8) announced new federal funding to support health care services in Luzerne County.

Maternal and Family Health Services, Inc. (MFHS) will receive a $180,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to continue their critical work, which includes family planning services, pregnancy care, and nutrition programs.

“This funding will help families get the preventive care and treatment they need to live healthy lives,” said Rep. Matt Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “That’s why I continue to be a strong advocate for federal funding that ensures MFHS, and other places across Northeastern Pennsylvania, have what they need to continue to do the critical work they do.”

“Family Planning Services is the only federal grant program dedicated solely to providing individuals with comprehensive family planning and related preventive health services,” said Bette Cox Saxton, President and CEO of Maternal and Family Health Services. “Maternal and Family Health Services has been administering a wide range of confidential, reproductive health services for over 48 years through unique partnerships and direct services in 15 counties of NEPA. We are pleased to have received this additional funding to expand our capacity in counties without providers through our Direct Services and the ability to add Telehealth solutions in our rural areas.”

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services administers grants to enhance and protect the health and well-being of all Americans.
