Cartwright Announces Start of FY 2017 SAFER Grant Application Period

Scranton, PA  Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that the Fiscal Year 2017 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant application period is now open and will close on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

The SAFER program provides grants to local fire departments to assist in hiring and retaining staff. Grants are administered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“SAFER provides funding to help fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations stay adequately staffed with frontline firefighters. This gives a much-needed boost to public safety in countless struggling communities,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “I urge fire departments facing reduced emergency response capabilities to apply for SAFER funding.”

For assistance, applicants can contact Congressman Cartwright’s Economic Development Director, April Niver, at 484-546-0776 as well as the SAFER Grants Help Desk at firegrants@fema.dhs.gov or 1-866-274-0960. Application assistance tools are available online at www.fema.gov/firegrants.
