Cartwright Announces $139,500 Grant for NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania

Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania (NWNEPA) has received $139,500 in federal grant funds from NeighborWorks America.  This funding will support NWNEPA’s housing and community development activities.

The grants will be used for the organization’s projects and programs for the year, which include providing property improvements for 80 aging homeowners, assisting 100 families with financial and homebuyer education, renovating blighted properties, and leading neighborhood revitalization efforts.

“Some of our neighborhoods need assistance to build and sustain homeownership and keep them strong,” said Congressman Cartwright, a member of the House Committee on Appropriations. “These funds will help stabilize communities and increase home values in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods where it’s needed most.”

“This funding is a crucial investment into our organization and the communities we serve. The flexible nature of this support will allow us to leverage additional resources with the ultimate goal of improving our neighbors’ lives and strengthening the neighborhoods we work in,” said Jesse Ergott, President & CEO of NWNEPA.

“The team at NWNEPA is a valuable resource for local residents looking to begin and maintain the American Dream of homeownership,” added Congressman Cartwright.

NeighborWorks America will announce more than $68 million in grants to its network of more than 240 nonprofit organizations located around the country. NeighborWorks organizations will use the grants to develop and manage high-quality affordable housing, make loans to homeowners and small businesses, offer financial coaching, homeownership education and counseling, and revitalize and strengthen communities.

"We’re committed to being good stewards of taxpayer dollars, and NeighborWorks ensures our investments are working in ways that transform lives,” said Paul Weech, President & CEO of NeighborWorks America

In fiscal year 2016, the NeighborWorks network assisted 360,000 individuals and families with affordable housing, owned and managed 154,100 rental homes, counseled and educated 115,000 customers, and created more than 53,600 jobs.
