Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) announced that three northeastern Pennsylvania health centers have received a total of $2,678,820 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to help them fight the COVID-19 outbreak. This is the second round of federal funds they have been awarded in recent weeks for this purpose. “This latest round of federal help for our local health centers couldn’t have come soon enough,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “As northeastern Pennsylvanians continue to turn to these providers for care during this pandemic, we need to make sure they’re equipped to keep up the fight. I have the deepest gratitude for the frontline health care professionals at these centers across our area working every day, treating patients and saving lives.” The following centers in northeastern Pennsylvania have received awards:
These awards come from funding authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act (H.R. 748), which Cartwright helped enact on March 27. These resources, which will be distributed through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), can be used for coronavirus testing; diagnosing and treating COVID-19; and maintaining or increase health capacity and staffing levels to address this public health emergency. HRSA is making these investments available immediately, as they are critical to our health care response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, Pennsylvania received $37,296,755 from HHS to support 43 health centers. This funding comes after Cartwright announced an initial round on March 27. |
