Cartwright Announces FY2018 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Now Open

Scranton, PA  Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that the Fiscal Year 2018 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant application period is now open and will close on and will close on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

The SAFER program provides grants to local fire departments to assist in hiring and retaining staff. Grants are administered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“SAFER provides funding to help fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations stay adequately staffed with frontline firefighters. This gives a much-needed boost to public safety in countless struggling communities,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “I urge fire departments facing reduced emergency response capabilities to apply for SAFER funding.”

For assistance, applicants can contact the SAFER Grants Help Desk with questions about the grant program, application process, or technical assistance tools. The toll-free number is 1-866-274-0960; the e-mail address for questions is firegrants@fema.dhs.gov.
