Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that Scranton Primary Health Care Center Inc. received $1,189,505 in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funds support critical health services for underinsured and uninsured residents.

Scranton Primary Health Care Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center, opened its doors in 1978, in an effort to provide healthcare to four low-income women who could not find care in the community. They have grown from those humble beginnings to now offering pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, prenatal and post-partum services, gynecology, and general dentistry. Last year alone, they saw almost 10,000 patients resulting in over 30,000 patient encounters. Located in downtown Scranton, they provide services to all patients who walk through their doors.

“Local health centers play an important role in providing care to our communities,” said Rep. Cartwright. “I will continue to be an advocate for community health centers and health equity in Pennsylvania and throughout the country.”
