Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton will receive $589,823 from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The funds will go towards the cost to replace the center’s nurse call system and to upgrade the elopement system, a patient wandering management system. “We have a growing number of military veterans in northeastern Pennsylvania, and many of them are in need of quality care,” Rep. Cartwright said. “These funds will allow for the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center to complete necessary updates leaving the facility better equipped to assist our aging veteran population.” The 200-bed Veterans Center provides health care and related services to Pennsylvanian veterans and their eligible spouses who are disabled, chronically ill, or in need of specialized care. The facility includes a chapel, pharmacy, barber and beautician services, dining rooms, and a multi-purpose room for large gatherings. |
