Rep. Cartwright Announces Temporary Office Changes to Remain Open and Maintain Constituent Services During COVID-19 Outbreak

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) today announced temporary changes to his Congressional office operations in order to remain open amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Cartwright’s offices will be open and operating remotely. They will continue to receive and respond to phone calls through the Scranton office line and coronavirus hotline number at 570-341-1050 and the Washington, D.C. office line at 202-225-5546. Business for the congressional offices in Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, Tannersville and Hawley will be temporarily rerouted centrally through the hotline number. All offices will continue to process electronic communication and mail, help constituents resolve issues with federal agencies, and receive and share information about the federal response to this pandemic.

The centralizing and remote-operating modifications have been instituted to follow  Governor Tom Wolf’s order for non-life-sustaining businesses to close their physical locations by 8:00 a.m. on March 23; to protect the health and safety of constituents and staff; and to ensure that northeastern Pennsylvanians can continue to rely on the congressional office for assistance with federal agencies and other matters.

“My dedicated staff are working remotely so Northeastern Pennsylvanians can continue to come to us for help and, at the same time, protect constituents and do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Rep. Cartwright. “My Scranton office phone line and hotline – 570-341-1050 – is already available for extended hours to assist on issues related to the coronavirus outbreak. All constituents, district-wide, can still contact us at that number for regular congressional business matters, such as help with federal government benefits and services.”

Last week, Cartwright announced that his Scranton district office phone line, 570-341-1050, will be open for extended hours to serve as a coronavirus ‘hotline’ for constituents seeking help from the federal government during this difficult time. The line will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, for assistance on matters such federal small business loans, unemployment benefits, food assistance, and other programs.

Although the U.S. Capitol is temporarily closed to visitors, the Washington office can still be reached at 202-225-5546 to raise federal policy questions and concerns.
