Taylor, PA – Lackawanna County will receive $784,883 in federal funds to reconstruct and pave a 1.1-mile section of previously unpaved roadway that services Stauffer Industrial Park. The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), an independent federal entity that serves Pennsylvania and other eastern mountain states, announced approval of the funds this week.

The paving will enhance access to the industrial park from highly-traveled Keyser Avenue and Oak Street, which connect to the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

“Helping economic development is the name of the game,” said Rep. Matt Cartwright.

The improved access will help retain 2,860 jobs and provide an opportunity for the 17 existing businesses located at the site to grow. ARC will fund 61% of the costs (with the state funding the balance), and PennDOT will administer the project.

“We are very grateful for Rep. Matt Cartwright’s efforts in securing the $784,883 Appalachian Regional Commission federal grant to fund the paving of a 1.1-mile stretch of road in Stauffer Industrial Park.  This distribution center is heavily used by a number of businesses that ship-out or bring in goods, food and hardware nationwide, which has a tremendous impact on our economy.  This grant will go a long way in keeping business moving in Lackawanna County,” said Lackawanna County Commissioner Patrick M. O’Malley.  “I also appreciate the role that our Community Development, Roads & Bridges and Engineering Departments played in preparing the grant to make today a reality.”
