Rep. Cartwright Statement on Iran Deal Withdrawal

Today, U.S. Congressman Matt Cartwright (PA-17) issued the following statement after President Trump announced United States' withdrawal from the Joint Comphrehensive Plan of Action:

“Like the product of most multilateral negotiations, the Iran deal was not perfect. But I supported the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) because it is the best option for preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. So far, the agreement is working. My worry is that the decision to withdraw from it isolates us from many of our closest allies and sets a precedent that will make other countries less likely to trust the word of the United States. Rather than thrusting a host of new international problems on our shoulders, we should instead be focusing our energy and resources on the everyday needs of American citizens – securing our safety, investing in jobs, building new infrastructure, improving healthcare, and taking better care of seniors and veterans.”
