Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) spoke on the House floor to honor the late Technical Sergeant George C. Yurek, Sr., of West Wyoming, PA, who recently passed away at the age of 98. Cartwright spoke of TSgt. Yurek’s bravery in volunteering for the unit that diffused hundreds of landmines on the Island of Corregidor in the Philippines, which paved the way for American forces to recapture the island from Japanese control.
