Cartwright Sworn in to 117th Congress

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) today was sworn in to the 117th Congress to serve Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. It marks the start of his fifth term representing Northeastern Pennsylvania.

“I’m honored to be sworn in to the 117th Congress and serve Northeastern Pennsylvania in the House for a fifth term. Today is a new beginning, but the biggest challenge confronting us remains defeating the coronavirus and repairing our economy,” Cartwright said. “I will continue to be a voice for all Northeastern Pennsylvanians and work toward realizing the fundamental American promise of opportunity for all. That means giving everyone a fair shot at a good education, a fulfilling job, quality health care and a secure retirement.”

Cartwright begins the 117th Congress as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, where he is slated to become chairman of the Subcommittee for Commerce-Justice-Science. He is also expected to continue as a member of the Financial Services & General Government Subcommittee. Cartwright continues in House Democratic Leadership as a Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee and a member of the Steering and Policy Committee.

This is Cartwright’s fifth term representing Northeastern Pennsylvania but his second term representing Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District, which includes Lackawanna, Wayne, and Pike Counties and portions of Luzerne and Monroe Counties.
