Statement on the Passing of Congressman Donald McEachin

Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright along with his fellow leaders of the House Sustainable Energy and Environmental Coalition, including Co-Chairs Reps. Gerry Connolly, Doris Matsui and Paul Tonko and Vice Chairs Reps. Alan Lowenthal, Chellie Pingree and Mike Quigley, released the following statement on the passing of Congressman and SEEC Vice Chair A. Donald McEachin.

“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of our friend and colleague Donald McEachin. When Donald came to Congress in 2017, he did not waste any time demonstrating his dedication to advocating for the climate and for environmental justice. In just his second term in the House, he was elected to serve with us as a Vice Chair in SEEC’s leadership team. We have loved working with Donald and will miss him terribly.

“Donald leaves behind a vital legacy of championing environmental justice that we pledge ourselves to honor. Donald worked tirelessly to ensure the voices of environmental justice advocates were heard in the halls of Congress. Because of his leadership, environmental justice is now recognized by all our colleagues in SEEC and beyond as a core tenet of good environmental and climate policy. As SEEC continues to fight to address long-standing environmental injustices, we will do so following in the trail that Donald blazed for us all.

“Our deepest condolences to Donald’s family, staff, loved ones, and all those who have been positively impacted by his life.”
