Rep. Cartwright Announces Service Academy Nominations for the Eighth Congressional District

Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) announced his nomination of 17 Northeastern Pennsylvania students as candidates to the United States Service Academies. The U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marines Academy require a congressional nomination to be considered for admission

“These students are among Northeastern Pennsylvania’s best and brightest.  Talented, driven and intelligent, they also possess a strong desire to serve their country,” said Rep. Cartwright “These young people are the next generation of American leaders, and they give me every reason to believe that our future is in very good hands.”

To receive a nomination, students completed a rigorous application process, including in-person interviews with members of Rep. Cartwright’s Military Academy Board consisting of Northeastern Pennsylvania veterans and community leaders. Throughout the application process, students must demonstrate their commitment to community service, their desire to serve in the United States Military and their academic and athletic prowess.

The Class of 2027 nominees to attend the United States Service Academies from Luzerne County include:

  • Joshua Hilpp from Mountain Top, Crestwood High School – The United States Air Force Academy
  • Michael Huntington from Dallas, Naval Academy Prep School and Dallas High School – The United States Naval Academy
  • Hunter Kerrick from Gouldsboro, Wilkes-Barre Area High School – The United States Air Force Academy
  • Jocelyn Williams from West Wyoming, Wyoming Area Secondary Center – The United States Naval Academy

The Class of 2027 nominees to attend the United States Service Academies from Lackawanna County include:

  • Francis Cocchini from Fleetville in Benton Township, Lackawanna Trail High School – the United States Military Academy, the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy
  • John Greenfield from Old Forge, Old Forge High School and the University of Delaware – the United States Military Academy
  • Gineva Reese from South Abington Township, Abington Heights High School – the United States Naval Academy
  • Gretchen Reese from South Abington Township, Abington Heights High School – the United States Military Academy and the United States Naval Academy
  • James Reese from South Abington Township, Abington Heights High School – the United States Merchant Marine Academy and the United States Naval Academy
  • Ava Sherman from Jessup, Valley View High School – the United States Air Force Academy
  • Luke Sirianni from Clarks Summit, Abington Heights High School – the United States Military Academy

The Class of 2027 nominees to attend the United States Service Academies from Wayne, Pike and Monroe Counties include:

  • Aden Dierksen from Milford, Delaware Valley High School – the United States Military Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, and the United States Naval Academy
  • Joseph Ewing from Tobyhanna, Pocono Mountain West High School – United States Naval Academy
  • Aniyah Farrow Williams from East Stroudsburg, 21st Century Cyber Charter School – the United States Military Academy
  • Joseph Harcum from Beach Lake, Honesdale High School – United States Naval Academy
  • Tyler Lofberg, from Hawley, Wallenpaupack Area High School – the United States Military Academy and the United States Air Force Academy
  • Evan Pierce from Lake Ariel, Western Wayne High School – the United States Naval Academy

 

Young adults between the ages of 17 and 22 are eligible to apply for nomination to a United States service academy. Anyone seeking to further their education and serve as an officer in the Armed Forces is encouraged to review the application on Rep.
