FOX56's Jake Sarwar spoke with one local resident who was at the State of the Union plus some reaction from a member of Congress. Just moments ago, President Biden concluded his second State of the Union speech. The annual message delivered by the President of the United States dates back to President George Washington. Kevin McCarthy, the incumbent Speaker of the House, is tasked with formally inviting the President to speak to the American people on the House floor. Many members of Congress, the Supreme Court, Joint Chiefs, and Presidential Cabinet attend the ceremony to hear what the President has to say. This year, one invited guest is from the Poconos. Chris Barrett, the President, and CEO of Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau was invited by Congressman Matt Cartwright to join him at the ceremony. Barrett says that it is incredibly humbling to get that phone call and a dream come true to watch the speech, live. “What we see tonight, is real democracy, and it is really what our republic is all about. So, the State of the Union to me, is very sacred,” said Barrett. |
