Supporters celebrate federal planning money for Scranton to NYC passenger train

In Larry Malski’s mind, the proposed Scranton-to-New York City passenger train reached the World Series on Tuesday.

“Once we win four more games, the train comes in,” said Malski, the president of the Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Railroad Authority.

A month ago, Malski and U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright confidently forecast Federal Railroad Administration approval for planning money, a major step in making the train happen.

 

They proved right.

The agency accepted the project into its Corridor Identification and Development Program “with the goal of reestablishing direct passenger rail service” between the cities, Cartwright and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey announced.
