Cartwright Announces $429,420 NOAA Grant for Nurture Nature Center
Easton, PA,

Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) awarded a $429,420 Environmental Literacy Program grant to the Nurture Nature Center to advance community resilience. They are one of nine recipients. Funding will be distributed over a 4-year period. “In this time of extreme weather events, people of all ages need a better understanding of the science behind them,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee and Vice Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition. “That is why I am proud to support funding for the Nurture Nature Center’s CREATE Resilience program that will provide access to NOAA’s latest data and help people use it to engage their peers to plan for weather events as a community.” “This new grant will allow the Nurture Nature Center—and its many local, state and federal project partners—to use local community hazard data as well as data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to create shared visions of resilience for area communities,” said Rachel Hogan Carr, Director. “Working with high school ambassadors as well as community residents, the project will bring science education, art, and community engagement together to help residents to learn about hazards and risks and strategies for mitigating against losses.” The Nurture Nature Center is located in downtown Easton and offers the public a range of events, including science programs, community dialogue sessions, film viewings, art exhibits, and workshops. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce and is dedicated to keeping citizens informed of the changing environment around them. Funds were made available through NOAA’s Environmental Literacy Program, which provides grants and in-kind support for programs that educate and inspire people to use Earth systems science to improve ecosystem stewardship and increase resilience to environmental hazards. |
