Easton, PA – Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $1,543,379 to Northampton County through its Community Development Block (CDBG) Grants program. The Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program provides annual grants to states and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. “Ensuring Northeastern Pennsylvanians have access to safe, affordable housing and more opportunities to improve their economic situation are important priorities for me,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “That is why I am a strong advocate for the CDBG program, which helps our communities by investing in housing, public services, and facility improvements.” HUD's mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. HUD is working to strengthen the housing market to bolster the economy and protect consumers; meet the need for quality affordable rental homes; utilize housing as a platform for improving quality of life; build inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination, and transform the way HUD does business. The CBDG program is managed by HUD’s Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD), which seeks to develop communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expand economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income persons. |
