Scranton, PA–Congressman Matt Cartwright (PA-o8) is pleased to announce that the USDA is accepting applications for loan guarantees and grants to help small businesses and agricultural producers invest in energy efficiency. These loan guarantees and grants are part of USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), which was created under the 2008 Farm Bill. “Programs like REAP can help our agricultural producers and small businesses cut costs and reduce their carbon footprint,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “Too often, small businesses do not have access to the resources necessary for investing in energy efficiency, and the loans and grants provided through the USDA can help make these changes possible.” The USDA REAP program helps increase American energy independence by increasing the private sector supply of renewable energy and decreasing the demand for energy through energy efficiency improvements. Over time, these investments can help lower energy costs for small businesses and agricultural producers. Eligible systems may derive energy from wind, solar, hydro-electric, ocean, hydrogen, geothermal or renewable biomass. This notice seeks applicants for Fiscal Year 2020 funding. The deadlines to apply for grants are October 31, 2019, and March 31, 2020. Applications for loan guarantees are accepted year-round.
