Cartwright Welcomes $1.9 Million in CARES Act Funding for Affordable Housing, Community Services in NEPA

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) today welcomed the release of $1,871,400 for affordable housing and community support in northeastern Pennsylvania. Authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act (H.R. 748) which Cartwright helped enact on March 27, this supplemental funding is distributed to states through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) programs.

“Many local government budgets were already strained even before the coronavirus pandemic,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “We provided this extra funding to help them continue providing critical services for the communities they serve.”

This the first of three tranches that will be made available to Pennsylvania through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It totals $24,691,407.
