U.S. Congressman Matt Cartwright made the following statement regarding President Trump’s executive orders aimed at federal workforce unions. The president’s three executive orders would:

--Restrict time spent by union officials on employee and workplace issues.

--Shorten collective bargaining time for workers to negotiate with management and potentially make collective bargaining agreements harder to reach.

--Allow managers to dismiss employees without the process protections in their current work agreements.   

“These orders are the latest in a series of executive actions in the wrong direction, undermining civil service, unions, and workplace protections,” Congressman Cartwright (PA-17) said.  “There are over 200,000 federal workers in Pennsylvania, and over 20,000 in my district, many working at Tobyhanna Army Depot, the Veterans Hospital, the Social Security Administration and USP Canaan. These employees help fuel our economy and provide invaluable service to all Americans."

“The executive orders restrict the valuable help unions provide federal workers and managers, and that’s no way to optimize productivity or retain the experienced labor force we need,” added Cartwright.  “We should come together in a bipartisan way to support the work at federal installations, not undercut it.”
