Statement by Congressman Matt Cartwright on Governor Corbett’s Executive Order Expanding Drilling to State Parks and Forests

Congressman Matt Cartwright issued the following statement today after Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett issued an executive order that would allow natural gas drilling under state parks and forests: “As the governor moves ahead and allows fracking under state parks and forests, we should require transparency with respect to the chemicals being put in the ground, making sure we have a complete understanding of both the environmental and health effects of this constantly evolving technology. We need to ensure that chemicals used during the fracking process are fully disclosed and are not harming the Commonwealth’s environment or its people. “In addition, I urge the Governor to tax natural gas extraction. It’s a matter of fundamental fairness to Pennsylvania’s communities and school districts.” |
