Rep. Matt Cartwright’s Statement on the President’s Actions to Freeze Federal Civilian Pay for Fiscal Year 2019
Washington, DC,
August 31, 2018
Representative Matt Cartwright issued the following statement regarding the President’s actions to freeze federal civilian pay for Fiscal Year 2019: "The income security of seniors, the health of America’s veterans, the safety and quality of the water we drink and air we breathe, our transportation systems, the security of our borders, the operation of our national justice system, the indispensable support of our armed services, and the good health of our economy are all dependent on the hard work, dedication, and expertise of federal civilian workers. They deserve a raise as much as anyone; more than that, they deserve the same rights and respect private sector employees deserve." "In Northeastern Pennsylvania, federal workers at Tobyhanna Army Depot, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the VA, the Social Security Administration, and other agencies contribute enormously to our community’s economic success and our hope for the future." "I have introduced legislation each Congress to increase wages and achieve parity for wage grade federal employees, and I will continue fight for pay increases on the House Appropriations Committee. Instead of freezing, we should be raising wages to invest in local families and our region’s economic growth." |
