Wilkes-Barre, PA – Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced that Wilkes-Barre Housing Authority has received a $35,791 federal grant from U.S. Housing and Urban Development in a continued effort to end veteran homelessness.

These funds will be used to help homeless veterans obtain affordable housing in their communities. Every year since 2008, HUD and VA have awarded Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) vouchers based on geographic need and public housing agency (PHA) administrative performance.

“No one who has fought for our nation in uniform should have to fight to have a roof over their head,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “We owe a debt of gratitude to our nation’s veterans, and this award will help provide some of those in need with a better quality of life.”

The HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).  VA provides the support services for participating Veterans at VA medical centers (VAMCs) and community-based outreach clinics.
