Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) made the following statement on President-elect Joe Biden’s American Rescue Package to fund vaccination efforts and provide direct relief to working families bearing the brunt of the COVID-19 crisis:

“This is the comprehensive national plan we need to defeat COVID-19 once and for all,” Cartwright said. “We are approaching 400,000 American lives lost to this virus as unemployment claims soar. Joe Biden’s American Rescue Package tackles both the public health and economic crises brought on by the pandemic.

“This plan enhances important direct relief lifelines I have advocated for, like housing and food assistance, small business aid, funding to keep local police and first responders on payroll, and it honors our commitment to delivering the remaining $1,400 direct payments to struggling Americans, bringing their total stimulus to $2,000 as it should have been from the start. This proposal will also help us get back to normal faster with investments in coordinated vaccine distribution, testing and emergency response. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I look forward to getting to work with my colleagues and delivering this aid as soon as possible.”
