Over 200 thank you letters given to local PA National Guard troops

A program led by one local Democratic congressman is meant at showing gratitude towards our local Pennsylvania National Guard troops.

"Thank you" letters, hand written on more than 200 cards, were distributed today by Congressman Matt Cartwright on Saturday.

Gratitude for the Guard spearheaded by Congressman Cartwright helped these brave men feel appreciated during some very trying times.

“The things that they’ve done in the last two years have surpassed anything that they’ve done since world war ii they’ve been deployed so many times overseas here at home during COVID-19 relief efforts fighting cyber security problems and of course tackling civil unrest," said Cartwright.

2,500 troops out of 25,000 that helped secure our nation’s capitol were from the commonwealth state.

Captain Matthew Gotzy says he was at the U.S. Capitol insurrection back in January.

“It’s a unique time I haven’t been here as long as these guys have however through this last year or two now it is relatively bleak I’ve never seen some of these things before I never thought I’d be at my nation’s capitol in that manner," said Gotzy.

Congressman Cartwright says it was an honor to deliver the letters written by area residents and students over the past month to guard members today.

“The thing that you need to remember about national guardsmen the men and women they have a day job. We’re talking about accountants and plumbers and contractors and people that aren’t doing that for a living they lay down everything every time they get called," said Cartwright.

“its nice that our civilian leadership recognizes some of the things that we do and I want to thank all of the students who sent their congratulations and thank you's I know these small little momentos will be appreciated and will go very far with the soldiers here at the Alpha troop," said Gotzy.
