9/11 memorial service held for 20th anniversary in Hawley

Residents in one Wayne County community paused to reflect and remember the thousands of lives tragically lost from 9/11.

The skies were clear, and just as blue 20 years ago from today.

Reminiscent of that fateful day when 3,000 people were killed after hijacked planes hit the World Trade Center in New York.

Elected officials, local first responders and clergy addressed their sentiments on the national tragedy that reshaped America as we know it today.

“We all spoke about the power of American unity and how we sought after 9/11, and how we remember it and how we cherish that American unity that rises above political party or race, or ethnicity or religion. We Americans when we want to, we can really come together," said Congressman Matt Cartwright.
