Support for Scranton-to-NYC Passenger Train Project Picks Up Steam

Amtrak’s study of a proposed Scranton-to-New York City passenger train should be done by August, a railroad official said Tuesday.

After that, it’s time to chase the money to pull it off, Ray Lang, Amtrak’s vice president for state-supported business development, said during a forum organized by U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-8, Moosic, to rally support.

Project officials can seek some of the $12 billion in funding available for new trains and service upgrades through the Federal Railroad Administration, said Lang. The railroad administration will develop a program over the next 18 months to work with states to start new train service or upgrade existing service, he said.
