Moosic plans new emergency services facility

Mayor Bob Bennie, who lauded Cartwright for his work and support, said the project took on a new sense of urgency last month when officers discovered mold at their since-shuttered police station on River Street.

The borough hopes to begin construction next year on a multimillion-dollar emergency services facility bringing the police and fire departments under one roof.

State and local officials gathered Thursday at the Greenwood Hose Company building on Birney Avenue, where U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-8, Moosic, highlighted $3 million in federal Community Project Funding he secured for the new headquarters.

“I’m proud to say this funding will help the borough build a new combined fire and police facility that will be safe, accessible and able to meet the challenging needs of these two departments,” Cartwright said. “This new facility will allow these two departments to operate at the highest level and best serve the citizens of Moosic. It is an important investment in the future of our community and the safety of our residents for generations to come.”
