Lackawanna County receives $2 million federal grant to reduce gang, drug, gun violence

Congressman Matt Cartwright received a lot of credit for the grant, helping secure that money in Congress for Lackawanna County.

"We are at war," Lackawanna County D.A. Mark Powell said Monday, addressing the first line of defense against crime in the Electric City.

Scranton police, state troopers and Powell are sounding the alarm on increased gang violence and drug trafficking.

"The Bloods, the Crips, the Lost Boys. Put these thugs behind bars and make Lackawanna County a safer place," Powell said.

Powell announced the county is receiving a $2 million federal grant to help them against gangs, illegal guns and drugs. Specifically, that money will help increase technology, intelligence and man power. A big support hub to help investigators and prosecutors go after gangs.
