Cartwright, a member of the House Committee on Appropriations and chair of the Commerce-Justice Science Subcommittee, oversees funding to the National Science Foundation.
He said it’s crucial that the foundation supports Penn State and other colleges and universities and regional industries like Schott to foster science education and research because the initiatives are important for Northeast Pennsylvania’s future growth and prosperity.
Schott North America officials led U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright and officials from the National Science Foundation and Penn State Scranton on a tour of their high-tech manufacturing facility and research center on Friday and demonstrated new glass technologies. Cartwright, D-8, Moosic, said he is proud to see that Schott makes glass parts for missiles that the people in Ukraine use to defend their nation. “We think of it as a center of technology and innovation and a job creator,” Cartwright said.
