USDA official announces $226K grant to ambulance company in Pittston

Scranton Times-Tribune

U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-8, Moosic, said many people only think of farming when they think of the USDA. However, the agency is there to help rural and less populated areas to make sure they get their “fair share” of federal dollars, Cartwright said. He said the Pittston ambulance was chosen for the grant because they are “so good at what they do.”

Medics with the Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance will be better equipped to save lives after receiving a $226,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Under Secretary for Rural Development Xochitl Torres Small, a former congresswoman from New Mexico, visited the organization’s Main Street, Pittston, headquarters on Wednesday to announce the award.

“I am amazed by the community spirit here and the commitment to health care,” Torres Small said.

Torres Small said the organization was a great example of a regional effort to provide emergency services.

The Greater Pittston ambulance is first due for emergency calls in Pittston, Jenkins Twp. and Yatesville. The ambulance also is the primary paramedic unit called in nearly every community in the Pittston and Wyoming Area school districts.
