Owners praised as new travel plaza opens along Interstate 81 in Luzerne County

Standard Speaker

U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-8, Moosic, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning and watched as organizers raised a massive American flag. He referenced the new company name after it had been Liberty Travel from its founding in 1988 until 2020. “You expanded into restaurants and hotels and rebranded from Liberty Travel Plaza to Onvo. It’s that entrepreneurial spirit that has sustained America’s prosperity for a couple of centuries,” Cartwright said as he stood in front of the new travel plaza with Sonny Singh, chief real estate officer, Andy Aulakh, chief business development officer, and Gerald Daniel, chief operating officer of Onvo.

Free coffee for the first week of business is how Onvo Travel Plaza-Dorrance is celebrating the grand opening of its state-of-the-art travel plaza just off of Exit 155 of Interstate 81.

Truck drivers filling up at the plaza will use diesel satellite pumps that enable tanks on their rigs to be filled from both sides, and those with electric vehicles will have four charging stations from which to choose, though parts supply delays mean they won’t be operational until the fall.

The facility features showers for truckers and bathrooms for the everyday traveler. The seating area has USB outlets for charging devices and a plugin in outlet for block chargers.
