Cartwright introduces bill to improve readiness for extreme weather

The Citizens' Voice

“The Prepare Act is recognition that we are not doing enough across the government to prepare for future extreme weather events,” Cartwright said. “Governments need to take into account planning for future extreme weather events and that’s how we save taxpayers’ money by planning ahead.”

Standing in front of the levee, U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-8, Moosic, said Tuesday he’s introducing legislation to improve government readiness for extreme weather disasters.

Cartwright announced the legislation, called the Prepare Act, at a news conference held near the Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority’s new headquarters which he said was a fitting location.

“No one knows better about the dangers of extreme weather and the importance of protecting the people we serve than the members of the Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority,” he said.

Cartwright said his legislation ensures there is “proper funding” to implement initiatives to better prepare for future extreme weather events and it would save lives.
