$19 million grant awarded to replace two Pittston bridges, improving safety and accessibility

The Dale J. Kridlo Memorial and Firefighters Memorial bridges help connect Downtown Pittston to West Pittston.

But the Firefighters Memorial Bridge, or Water Street Bridge, has been shut down since August of 2021 after failing an inspection.

Many in the area have wondered when or even if the bridge would ever reopen. But that is now possible all thanks to a new grant.

Congressman Matt Cartwright along with Senators Bob Casey and John Fetterman announced a $19 million grant through the Department of Transportation’s RAISE program for the rehabilitation and replacement of the bridges.

In a statement, Congressman Cartwright says,

“Replacing the aging spans connecting these two municipalities will ease existing traffic congestion and alleviate residents’ long-standing frustrations”
