With a federal decision due soon, passenger train promoters confident

“All of the ducks that we’ve been putting in line for nine or 10 years now are paying off,” Cartwright said. “Because we’re getting very clear signals from both Amtrak and FRA that they realize we’re a premier project in this country.”

Officials expressed confidence Friday that a federal agency will soon greenlight key funding for the passenger train from Scranton to New York City.

“What you need to know is that’s not the big news. We expect to get it,” U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright said during an interview at the Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Railroad Authority.

“We’re very confident,” Cartwright said. “The big news is that we’re showing real signs of excitement among the top decision-makers in the administration.”

 

“It hasn’t happened, but we’re confident,” authority President Larry Malski said.

The Federal Railroad Administration expects to announce the first round of recipients of its Corridor ID program grants “within the next several weeks,” FRA spokesman William Wong said in a Nov. 2 email.
