U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-8, Moosic, announced $1.05 million in federal funds has been awarded to regional fire departments.

In all, 10 fire companies in Lackawanna, Luzerne and Monroe counties were awarded funds to purchase new equipment and bolster safety through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

“Firefighters put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect our neighborhoods and keep our families safe. These federal grants will provide them with the equipment and protective gear they need to further protect our communities,” said Cartwright, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.
