United States flags that flew over the U.S. Capitol aren't handed out every day, but one was awarded Monday afternoon.

U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-8, of Moosic, presented Pulpit Boxing with a flag at the academy's headquarters on Broad Street.

“I can tell you I don’t give them out everyday, let alone every hour. We save them for very special occasions,” Cartwright said after the event.

The Rev. Samuel Washington, founder and owner of the nonprofit boxing academy and pastor of the next-door Perspective Church, said he personally made the request for a new flag to Cartwright.

“It just happens our flag was beat up so we reached out to the congressman,” Washington said.

Cartwright said he was “more than happy to accommodate the request.”
