”The unprecedented levels of funding in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, maximized by The STREAM ACT, will help restore safe drinking water, bring impaired ecosystems back to life and, in the process, revive economic and recreational opportunities by eliminating our legacy coal pollution,” Cartwright said.

“The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is one our district’s greatest outdoor recreation areas and home to a stretch of road that’s essential to the business community and residents in the surrounding area. Thanks to the Route 209 legislation and my Native Plant Species Pilot Program Act, we can protect Northeastern Pennsylvania’s local economy and access for school buses and emergency vehicles while helping preserve the ecosystem of our beloved natural landscapes," said Rep. Cartwright.

All 15 of Cartwright’s Community Project Funding requests — supporting projects from a university research center and an emergency operations facility to police technology upgrades — were included in the final spending package.

“Acid mine drainage continues to pose serious health risks and impedes economic development in Northeastern Pennsylvania communities with a history of coal mining,” said Rep. Cartwright. “The unprecedented levels of funding in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, maximized by the STREAM ACT, will help restore safe drinking water, bring impaired ecosystems back to life and, in the process, revive economic and recreational opportunities by eliminating our legacy coal pollution.”

“Bringing our fair share of federal tax dollars back to our region is the main reason I ran for Congress,” Cartwright said. “This funding directly addresses some of the most pressing needs in Northeast Pennsylvania by creating better paying jobs, making us safer and strengthening our communities.”
