Cartwright Announces $2.9 million in HHS Funds for Schuylkill County Head Start Program

Pottsville – Today, U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded a supplementary grant worth $2,948,886 to Child Development, Inc. for its Schuylkill County Head Start program.

Child Development, Inc. offers Head Start and child care programs for children in Schuylkill County.

“Child Development, Inc. provides children in Schuylkill County access to a wide range of high-quality educational services.  These federal funds are an investment in both our community and our children,” said Cartwright.  “I am a proud proponent of Head Start; a great education starts with early childhood learning and is vital to strengthening our economy and our country.”

Head Start is a national program created in 1965 to address the educational and developmental needs of low-income, pre-school children.  Head Start’s comprehensive service system provides social, nutritional, and educational services for thousands of children and their families across the United States.

Rep. Matt Cartwright represents Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District, which includes Schuylkill County and portions of Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, and Northampton Counties.  Cartwright serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
